Let’s go over another week of makeup reviews. Have you ever had your phone buzz with a super exciting notification? Well, I did! It told me about this awesome sale on makeup, so I added it to my cart quickly. Then on TikTok, you know, that app the government threatening to disappear? Yeah, it also knows what I like, and I bought another thing from the TikTok shop. Also, guess what was half off this past week at Ulta during their sale…Scroll down to find out…(super cheesy, but I’m tired and trying!)
YSL Lipsticks
A few weeks ago Pinterest sent me a notification that there was a sale for something I pinned. Did you know Pinterest alerts you when something is on sale? This is going to be dangerous.
Naturally I had to see what it was, so I can do some makeup reviews, and it was the YSL Rouge Volupte Shine! But this was Nordstrom, so when I clicked on it, they were already sold out. Luckily it was still on sale at the YSL Beauty website. Needless to say, I just added colors that were available into my cart.
I bought Rouge Tuxedo, Orange Caraco, Mauve Cuir, and Pulsing Rosehip. I don’t think I need to do an in-depth review, because…there’s nothing too special about them. They’re lipsticks. I have other ones that work just as good, but I wasn’t wowed. And the tube scratches SO easily. I have drugstore lipsticks from last year that look better. For a luxury makeup brand, I expected better.
Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin
I swear TikTok shop knows what’s on my wish list 😂
It’s not my fault things I want go on sale! Seriously though, that’s how they get you. They know what they’re doing. I got the Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin, and since I have a lot of texture on my face I like to try a bunch of different things.
I used an e.l.f. putty brush, because it’s really good at picking up creams, and that kind of texture. It didn’t really work, but then again I’m not surprised. I was just trying to figure out a way to do it myself since my disability limits me. It’s okay to get help sometimes
I put DM yummy skin on one side of my face, and left the other side bare, but I didn’t see any kind of difference. Then I thought I would put on foundation, and see if I noticed anything from that. I used my Beautyblender Bounce Foundation in 3.5, but it still wasn’t any different. I have a lot of texture on my skin, so a lot of things don’t work for me. But since this is made for textured skin, I was hoping it would work. I think my Dr. Jart Tiger Balm hides my redness more, which is my holy grail. I think I need to try an actual shade of yummy skin instead of a universal one, which is just clear.
This was definitely a ME issue, because I know a lot of people love Yummy Skin. I’ll stick to her fabulous palettes instead.
Fenty Beauty Match Stix
Let’s talk about my Fenty Beauty face. To start, I used the Fenty Eaze Drops in #3. It’s not the most full coverage foundation, but I think by the time everything is applied on, it looks like there’s more coverage than there actually is. Which I’ll take!
For bronzer I used was the Fenty Match Stix Contour in Truffle. I was worried for a second it was going to be too dark, but it actually turned out perfect. I’ve mentioned before how bronzers look red on me, so I have to pick a really dark color to tell I’m wearing it.
Then I used the Fenty Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick in Yacht for my blush. I think this is going to be summer color. It’s not very pigmented, but you can definitely still see it on. This is more for a daytime look, because of how sheer it is. I feel like it’s a really good color when it’s hot out.
Next, I used the Fenty Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick Highlight in Confetti. This was a little harder to work with for me. It’s not very easy to blend in or apply on a matte face. Ugh, oily skin. It did blend though after a bit of work, and I love the purple iridescent color. It’s very similar to the Colorgram Milk Bling Highlighter in Lavender Heart. I would even say it’s a dupe. Think this will be perfect for extremely hot days.
For my concealer, eyebrows, and setting powder I stuck to my usual Maybelline Brow Ultra Slim Pencil in black, Tarte Shaped Tape Concealer in Light Medium, and of course my KimChi Puff Puff Pass setting powder.
I topped it all off with the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb in Dragonfruit (limited edition color).
Conclusion
In my week of makeup reviews, Pinterest notified me of the YSL Rouge Volupte lipsticks. Unfortunately, they were sold out on Nordstrom, but luckily, I found them still available on the YSL Beauty website, and ended up purchasing a few shades. Then, TikTok tempted me with the Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin product, which I hoped would work for my textured skin, but unfortunately it didn’t. Even trying different application methods didn’t make a difference, but I’m going to try one in a color of my skin. Moving on to my Fenty Beauty routine, I liked and disliked certain products, like the Eaze Drops foundation giving a natural look, but there was extra work to blend in the highlight. Overall, it was a mixed bag of experiences with these social media recommendations.
