NYX Duck Plump in Cherry Spice Makeup Review
I’m shocked I was able to get one in cherry spice. Though I did order it for pickup before Ulta opened, haha. I love bubblegum bae, and it’s been in my rotation since, so I was excited to try a new color and flavor.
First, I absolutely love the duck plump collection. Probably more than lip oils, but we’ll keep that between us. I mean, I’ll always buy new ones, but I love this formula more. It really reminds me of the Lawless No Filler Plump gloss. The texture is very similar, except the NYX plumper stings. Not all of them are the same, there’s a few lip glosses that are sheer, including this one that doesn’t have much pigment.
I was disappointed with the color though. Bubblegum Bae is so bright and pigmented, I thought for sure Cherry Spice would be the same. I expected more color, because of how the rest of the collection is. I know there’s another red color available, so maybe that’s why this is more like a regular gloss. It basically felt and looked the same as the NYX Fat Oils.
Still obsessed with this rest of the duck plumps though!
Maybelline Lifter Gloss Lifter Plump in Red Flag
I’m convinced this Maybelline Lifter Plumping Gloss in Red Flag is the same as the NYX Duck Plump in Cherry Spice. You can watch me try it on in an Instagram reel I posted. I have a full review of both on TikTok as well, but I digress. It’s also a very sheer formula, so despite looking like different shades of red, they look almost identical. You definitely only need one out of these two. Maybelline stings a little more than NYX, but color and plumping wise, they’re both pretty much the same to me.
COVERGIRL Outlast Lipstain in Iconic Ruby Makeup Review
When I bought Jazzberry at Walgreens last week, I thought I’d try Iconic Ruby too. Let me tell you, it was way easier to apply. This one felt more wet. It was still a little patchy, but i think if I’m quick enough in applying it, it can look pretty good. I don’t know why Jazzberry was so patchy and dry, but Iconic Ruby is a lot better.
I put my Peripera Lip Velvet Stain on in Fusia Red to see if it would even things out. It definitely did. I wouldn’t go out and buy a lip topper specifically for this, but if you already have some type of red lipstick, you can just throw it on top. But like I said, I think it will also work if you’re fast enough to apply it. I’m glad it turned out as pretty as I thought it would be, but I won’t be buying one again.
Trader Joe’s Berry Chocolate Lip Mask Duo
I tried the Berry Chocolate Lip Mask Duo from Trader Joe’s, and it smells so good! You can’t really tell the two apart color wise like Laneige, because it’s more about the smell. It’s also smaller than Laneige-more like a travel size. However, you’re not paying Laneige prices either.
The chocolate lip mask has a very authentic smell. I was worried I wasn’t going to like it, because I don’t like fake chocolate fragrances. Things like candles and makeup, which is funny considering how much I love chocolate in general. I think it smells too artificial for me.
Berry is softer than chocolate but it has little sparkles in it, so I’m assuming the formula is a little different. It’s just a small difference. It’s thinner than Laneige lip masks, so it’s not an exact dupe, but they’re similar. Berry is probably my favorite out of the two. Overall, I’ll be using it because it definitely smells and feels good.
Maybelline Super Stay Vinyl Ink Longwear in Edgy
I think this is more my color than Upbeat, which I tried last week. Though, I’m going to try it again this weekend (Update: I think the issue is more me than the color. I put a gloss on top because I thought maybe I would like it better, but it’s just not for me). I think it’s too frosty for my complexion. Anyway, I really liked Edgy. It didn’t feel as wet as Upbeat, but it went on perfectly. It’s more Berry toned, so I wouldn’t say it’s purple (even though that’s what I was hoping for). I don’t know what’s up with me and lip products that are either dry or extra wet lately. Either way, I like Edgy better.
Moira Multichrome Gel Liner in Ultra Makeup Review
I wanted to try a new gel eyeliner since I wasn’t crazy about the Colourpop BFF Gel Liners (I think the green one is the best one out of all of them), so I ordered Ultra from Moira Cosmetics on Amazon. I got the color Ultra, which now that I think about, was definitely not the right shade to try.
Right off of the bat Ultra was super glittery and gorgeous. Unfortunately, I got the wrong color. It was supposed to be a silver/purple, but it looks really white in person. You can see a little lavender at a certain angle, but looking straight ahead, it looks white.
I think this would be great for darker skin tones, but definitely not mine. It blends into my skin too much. I think I’m going to order a different color to try again, but it’s definitely not as smooth or pigmented as the Colourpop BFF gel liners.
Conclusion
Exploring new makeup products can be exciting and disappointing. I was really excited to try he NYX Duck Plump in Cherry Spice, but it falls short in pigment compared to the other shades. Even though it’s sheer, the rest of the formula reminds me of the Lawless No Filler Plump Gloss, but without the stinging sensation. Compared to the Maybelline Lifter Plumping Gloss in Red Flag, it’s very similar. If I didn’t know better, I’d think they were the same product. The CoverGirl Superstay Vinyl Ink and Lipstain is inconsistent. Jazzberry was very dry and patchy last week, but when I tried Iconic Ruby this week, it was more moisturizing and a little less patchy, but not the best. The Trader Joe’s Berry Chocolate Lip Mask Duo is a budget-friendly alternative to Laneige, but don’t expect a dupe. They’re smaller in size, but more affordable, and they smell great. It’s definitely still a good product I’ll use. Even with the promise of extra sparkle, the Moira gel liner fell flat in texture and color, but I’m not giving up. I’m going to order another one to try. All in all it was a good week of new makeup.
